Description
Golden Toned MS64 Full Bands 1916-D Dime
1916-D 10C MS64 Full Bands PCGS. The '16-D is the most widely recognized key issue in the Mercury dime series, primarily because of its very low mintage of only 264,000 pieces. Curiously, quite a few high grade examples are known today because its low mintage alerted collectors and hoarders at the time of issue that this would be a coin whose value could only go in one direction: up. Still, not that many near-Gem and Gem examples are known in terms of absolute numbers. Only 73 MS64 pieces have been certified by PCGS (5/01), with another 40 in higher grades. This coin has bright mint luster that glows beneath the rich overlay of golden-brown patina that is seen over both sides.Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 23GY, PCGS# 4907, Greysheet# 4524)
Weight: 2.49 grams
