Description

1872 Three Dollar, PR65 Cameo
Outstanding Eye Appeal

1872 $3 PR65 Cameo PCGS. The 1872 three dollar piece had a reported mintage of 30 proofs, 20 to 25 of which are estimated to survive. The proofs are subject to date pressure by collectors because of the rarity of the 1872 business strike, that saw only 2,000 coins produced and perhaps somewhat fewer than 245 extant. PCGS has graded two proofs in Gem condition and none finer, including the solitary PR65 Cameo in the present lot.
Gorgeous field-motif contrast is present on both sides of this peach-gold example, each of which exhibits exquisitely struck design elements. There are no marks worthy of mention. This impeccably preserved Gem yields outstanding eye appeal.(Registry values: N7079)
