1863 Postage Currency Ten Cents in Aluminum
Judd-328, Unc Details
Rarely Seen Reeded Edge Variant

1863 10C Ten Cents, Judd-328, Pollock-398, Cassel-14, R.8 -- Damaged -- PCGS Genuine. Unc Details. 10.8 grains. Standard Postage Currency obverse and reverse. Struck in aluminum with a reeded edge. This rarely encountered Postage Currency issue was metallurgically examined by S&N Labs on Certificate number 635017 "Corroded" and it was found to contain 97% aluminum, 1.2% silver, and 1.6% iron. Believed to be one of only two or three reeded edge aluminum strikings extant. The surfaces are bright, most likely from cleaning, and there are numerous small to medium-sized spots of oxidation present. There is also a larger planchet lamination observed on the lower reverse (in the date area).
