Description

1863 Half Dime, PR65 Red and Brown
Copper Strike From Regular Dies, Judd-323

1863 H10C Seated Half Dime, Judd-323, Pollock-388, High R.7, PR65 Red and Brown PCGS. CAC. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. Only about a dozen examples of this type are known. The design elements are the same as those seen on the regular issue coins. According to the USPatterns.com website: "Although described in the literature as 'regular dies trial pieces', these are actually restrikes deliberately made in the early 1870s and sold as part of complete off-metal sets with the silver coinage of this year ... These half dime dies were made from a hub which had the "D" in "United" broken and are believed to be backdated novodels." A well struck, nicely mirrored, and unabraded Gem. The reverse field and obverse margin are fire-red, although sea-green toning embraces the obverse field.

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 29F3, PCGS# 70480, Greysheet# 12602)
