Description
Conditionally Rare 1812/1 Bust Half, MS65 NGC
1812/1 50C Small 8 MS65 NGC. O-102a, R.2. Easily identified as the later die state by the die crack that runs through the base of the second 1 to the stand of the overpunched 1. Surprisingly frosty surfaces, the central striking details are well brought up with some localized peripheral softness, most notably on the stars on the lower part of the reverse. Each side is moderately toned with reddish-gray hues that deepen to russet and deep sea-green at the borders. Noticeably die clashed on the obverse, the opposite side is virtually free of mentionable clashing. This conditionally rare example is finer than both the Eliasberg (MS 60) and Overton examples (MS 63), and is bettered by only one other at NGC (4/04).
