Rare, High Grade 1860-S Half Eagle, AU58--Tied For Second Finest Known
1860-S $5 AU58 NGC. Long thought to be unknown in Mint State, there is now one MS62 1860-S half eagle certified. Otherwise, AU58 is the top of the heap condition-wise for this very elusive issue. This is a very pleasing example that has light, even golden-orange coloration and somewhat bright fields. The devices are a bit softly struck and there are no obvious or distracting blemishes on either side of this important S-mint five. This is a coin that should be carefully considered by rare gold specialists for its absolute rarity as well as high grade and overall attractiveness.
