Description

1923-S Nickel, MS65
Softly Rolling Luster

1923-S 5C MS65 PCGS. A golden overtone prevails on this Gem, varying to peach at parts of the margins and nickel-white others. Though the strike shows evidence of typical softness, particularly on the bison's shoulder, the head, though weak, does show a full outline of the horn. The 1923-S nickel enjoyed a generous mintage of more than 6.1 million pieces, but between the well-known striking difficulties encountered by branch mints during the Roaring Twenties and a low savings rate, the issue is very scarce in Gem and rare any finer. Population: 46 in 65 (1 in 65+), 3 finer (8/13).
