Full Crest with Countermark
ATTICA. Athens. Ca. 440-404 BC. AR tetradrachm (23mm, 17.16 gm,
7h). NGC Choice AU 4/5 - 3/5, Full Crest, countermark. Mid-mass
coinage issue. Head of Athena right, wearing crested Attic helmet
ornamented with three laurel leaves and vine scroll / AΘE, owl
standing right, head facing; olive sprig and crescent moon behind,
all within incuse square. HGC 4, 1597. SNG Copenhagen 31-40. Kroll
8. Especially appealing example with not only a full crest, but
also a countermark, which is rare to find on these issues.
