Description

Gem Proof 1859 Trime

1859 PR 66 NGC. First year of the Type Three design, and the first year of modern, high mintage proof production. Mint records indicate that 800 proofs were struck this year, but many were melted as unsold at year's end, leaving far fewer available to collectors today. This is an originally toned, shimmering coin with superior depth of mirrored reflectivity in the fields. Modest contrast is noted between the devices and the fields. Each side is deeply toned in variegated blue-green and crimson hues. Nearly flawless surfaces. Population: 6 in 66, only 1 finer (6/96).

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 27C6, PCGS# 3708, Greysheet# 3664)

Weight: 0.75 grams

Metal: 90% Silver, 10% Copper
