Description

Very Scarce Proof 1854 Arrows Quarter

1854 Arrows PR 64 PCGS. An intricately detailed specimen with watery mirrors and a light streak of russet toning across the top half of the reverse. It matches all the diagnostics set out in Breen (1977), including the oddly shaped bottom left of the 1 in the date, the lowest horizontal shield stripe that extends left into the eagle's wing, and the near vertical die striae above QU. Just 10 proofs have been estimated to survive, a figure that we suspect is a trifle low, but nonetheless exceedingly rare both as a date and as an Arrows type coin in the proof format. Population: 6 in 64, 1 finer (9/97).

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 23WV, PCGS# 5550, Greysheet# 5270)

Weight: 6.22 grams
