Description
1801 BD-2 Eagle, AU Details
Popular Early Gold Issue
1801 $10 -- Reverse Scratched -- NGC Details. AU. BD-2, R.2.
The NGC notation must be referring to a pair of parallel hair-thin
lines, one of which extends from 1 to 7 o'clock, while the other is
from the left shield tip to cloud 5. However, these two lines are
perfectly straight, and transition smoothly back and forth from the
device to the field. The most likely explanation is the lines were
on the planchet prior to the strike. However, the pale straw-gold
surfaces suggest that the coin has been cleaned, and we note a
faded mark near obverse star 4.(Registry values: P1)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 2627, PCGS# 8564, Greysheet# 9348)
Weight: 17.50 grams
Metal: 91.67% Gold, 8.33% Copper
