Not Sold Description
1863 2C Two Cents, Judd-312, Pollock-377, R.4, PR65 Red and Brown PCGS. Ex: Charles Parrish. Both the obverse and the reverse are similar to those adopted for the business strike two cent piece in 1864, except that the motto reads GOD OUR TRUST and the word CENTS is curved on the reverse. Struck in bronze with a plain edge. Examples of this variety were produced on planchets of three different weight standards. Pollock has assigned those coins that weigh 87-96 grains an R.4 rating, and he notes that all examples seen have 180 degree die rotation. This particular example also displays 180 degree die rotation, but it still may fall into either the 76-80 grain (R.6-7), 87-96 grain, or 101-102 grain (R.6-7) weight standards. Of course, as this coin is encapsulated in a PCGS slab, we cannot accurately determine its weight, and we leave the final determination to the winning bidder. Deeply mirrored, the original mint red is interspersed with rich tonal qualities of blue, olive-green, and pinkish-rose. A splendid, spot-free Gem with frosted devices. From the Robert Schick Collection.
