Description

Uncirculated 1842 Small Date Eagle

1842 Small Date MS 60 PCGS. A rare coin in any grade, the 1842 is very elusive in mint state. Akers stated that he had never seen a Small Date in strictly uncirculated condition. The population data from PCGS and NGC does not distinguish between the two date varieties, but there is a combined total of 6 coins in MS 60-64 condition between the two services. This is a bright, fully lustrous coin that shows a hint of prooflikeness in the fields. Well struck throughout except on a couple of the obverse stars and showing a few small, scattered abrasions. Conservatively graded.
