Description

Choice 1842 Second Restrike Proof 64

1842 Second Restrike PR 64 Red and Brown. B-3, R.7. Mostly red and only slightly subdued from the full color imparted at the Mint. Identifiable by a minute carbon spot just below Liberty's eye, and this can be seen on the photo of this coin in the William H. Fenn III Sale. An important rarity that should attract considerable attention, these early proofs have been eagerly collected by half cent specialists since the time of their issue. Diagnostic file marks above RICA of AMERICA and small berries confirm the attribution.
