Description
1739 Admiral Vernon Medal, Porto Bello, Adams-PBv-31-DD, R.8 -- Environmental Damage -- NGC Details. AU. Ex: Admiral Vernon Collection. Copper alloy. 37.2 mm. This variety is very rare. Adams-Chao rate it R.8, and Sedwick noted (2023), "only two examples reported." The two seen are the Adams-Chao plate coin and the present example. The medal has deep walnut-olive patina and is somewhat granular on the obverse, as noted by NGC. Detail is strong, and there is little wear on each side. XRF composition (per Sedwick): 47.34% copper, 46.84% zinc, 2.50% lead.Ex: John Adams Collection; Sedwick (11/2023), lot 1533.
