1805 C-1, B-1 Half Cent, AU55
No Stems Reverse
1805 1/2 C Small 5, No Stems, C-1, B-1, R.1, AU55 PCGS. Our EAC
Grade XF45. A strong and nicely centered strike reveals nearly
full border dentils on this Choice AU half cent. Intermingled
golden-olive and steel patina resides on the lustrous services,
with faint traces of mint color. A strong glass reveals the trivial
imperfections that otherwise go unnoticed.Variety: C-1, B-1. Manley Die State 2.0, usual for this variety. The reverse is rotated about 30 degrees clockwise.
Population Data (4/15): PCGS reports 48 1805 No Stems half cents in AU and 23 in Mint State. This example is one of 14 AU55, with 22 AU58.
Heritage Commentary: PCGS identifies the obverse as a "Small 5," although most specialists agree that "Medium 5" is a better description.
