Attractive 1879-CC Capped Die in Choice Mint State

1879-CC $1 Capped Die MS64 NGC. VAM-3. Richmond Collection. One of the key dates to the Morgan dollar series and a very difficult coin to find in Choice Mint State or higher grades. This particular coin shows light gold around the edge of the obverse and extreme edge of the reverse, with the balance being bright white and lustrous. The surfaces are quite nice for an early CC Mint coin with just a few minor abrasions found with a loupe. This particular coin is identifiable by a thin reeding mark just behind the eagle's head, running close to vertical, and nearly touching the eagle's neck. A prize for the Morgan dollar specialist. Population: 106 in 64, 10 finer (1/05).
