Description

1846 Seated Dollar, MS64+
Conditionally Scarce
Ex: Eliasberg

1846 $1 MS64+ PCGS. Ex: Eliasberg. The 1846 Seated dollar, with a mintage of 110,600 pieces, is a popular issue for type purposes at lower circulated and AU grades. Mint State coins are difficult to find, and this MS64+ example approaches the top of the grading spectrum at both services. NGC and PCGS have seen a combined total of 42 near-Gems, and each company has certified exactly two MS65s apiece.

This lovely coin offers satiny, semiprooflike surfaces and bold, nearly full strike definition. Pleasing intermingled colors of golden-brown, apple-green, russet, and cream-gray adorn the carefully preserved surfaces that only betray a few minor abrasions. From the collection of a legendary numismatist who clearly had a taste for high-quality coins. Population: 20 in 64 (2 in 64+), 2 finer (2/14).
