Kingdom of Macedon. Philip III, 323-317 B.C. AR tetradrachm minted in the East, probably Babylon, 323-317 B.C. Head right of young Herakles wearing lion skin/Zeus enthroned left, holding eagle and scepter; wheel in left field and two monograms. 16.68 g. Price P189. Boldly struck VF, slightly porous with the obverse being somewhat off-center.
Philip III was a half-brother of Alexander the Great. Son of Philip II and the dancer Philinna of Larissa, Philip III continued coinage of Alexander's main types, sometimes retaining Alexander's name, other times replacing it with his own, as with this coin.
