Description
Desirable 1853 Seated Dollar, MS63
1853 $1 MS63 PCGS. This Select Mint State example offers lovely orange-gold toning over steel-gray surfaces, with a sharp strike and fewer signs of contact than might be expected for the grade. It is perhaps only the slightly subdued luster that keeps this piece from a finer grade. The 1853 weight reduction in minor silver coinage did not apply to the silver dollar, whether by commission or omission, and because they were worth more as bullion than as coins, examples failed to circulate. Population: 30 in 63, 12 finer (5/08).From Anaconda Rare Coins.(Registry values: N4719)
