Description

XF 1795 Two Leaves Half
O-121, Y Over Star Variety

1795 50C 2 Leaves XF40 PCGS. O-121, R.4. A partly lustrous piece with pleasing russet-brown and apple-green peripheral toning. Struck from clashed dies. O-121 is referred to in the 2008 Guide Book as the variety with the "Y in LIBERTY [entered] over a star." Although O-121 is "only" listed as R.4, a perusal of the Heritage auction archives suggests that the variety is noticeably scarcer than (for example) O-125, O-105, and O-116. None have appeared in a Heritage Signature auction since the 2/05 Jules Reiver collection, which contained most early silver die marriages. Reiver's example graded Fine 12.
