Description
Bold MS62 1787 Immunis Columbia, Eagle Reverse
1787 PIECE Immunis Columbia Piece, Eagle Reverse MS62 Brown NGC. Crosby Pl. VIII, 8, Breen-1137. Produced as a pattern coinage proposal for the Confederation (and believed a prototype for federal coinage), the Immune or Immunis Columbia coppers of 1787 were much more carefully produced than the 1786-dated pieces. Breen theorizes that the number of survivors points to a considerable emission, perhaps in the thousands, and possibly in the tens of thousands. Like most 1787 pieces, this example has the date partially off the flan, but the bold strike, smooth planchet, and bold luster place it in the top end of the survivors. Census: 1 in 62, 3 finer (7/08). Listed on page 53 of the 2009 Guide Book. From The Aspen Collection.
