Description

Iridescently Toned Gem Proof 1885 Seated Quarter

1885 25C PR65 PCGS. While the proofs were produced to their usual degree (940 pieces), the business strikes, like so many Seated denominations of the era, were produced in minuscule quantities (13,600 coins), so many collectors must turn to proof coinage for a nice, problem-free piece. This Gem proof offers iridescent steel-blue and champagne-pink patina on each side, with good field-device contrast and plenty of appeal. Certified in an old-style small holder.
Ex: L.W. Hoffecker Collection (Superior, 2/1987), lot 2877.
