Description

1873-CC Double Eagle, AU53
Lustrous and Appealing

1873-CC $20 AU53 PCGS. Variety 1-A. The 1873-CC is the last of the scarce early dates in the Carson City double eagle set, although the rarity of CC-mint twenties in Mint State persists through the 1874 issue. Specialists in branch mint gold will recognize the scarcity of the 1873-CC in AU condition with any amount of eye appeal. This piece has scattered abrasions, but the severity of the contact marks fails to meet expected norms -- the overall appearance is far above average. The devices are sharp, and luminous yellow-gold luster remains in the fields. The coin would be a noteworthy addition to an AU-level Carson City double eagle collection.
