Description
Outstanding 1882 Three Dollar Gold
PR65 ★ Ultra Cameo, Finest Certified
1882 $3 PR65 ★ Ultra Cameo NGC. The three dollar proofs of
1882 had a mintage of only 76 pieces. They were apparently saved in
relatively large numbers, as NGC and PCGS have graded 73 specimens,
some of which are surely resubmissions. The two services, however,
have seen just two Ultra/Deep Cameos, with the current Gem the
finer of the two. Moreover, this particular coin is the only 1882
three dollar assigned NGC's coveted Star designation.Beautiful brass-gold color adorns both sides, each of which projects outstanding field-motif contrast. A powerful strike manifests itself in crisp delineation on the design features, and both faces are impeccably preserved. A tiny, inoffensive toning spot above the 1 in the date may well preclude an even higher numerical grade. The technical quality and aesthetic appeal of this specimen cannot be stressed enough.
