Description

Lovely 1875 Gold Dollar MS66, Finest-Graded at NGC

1875 G$1 MS66 NGC. From a minuscule mintage of 400 business strikes, this example is currently the single finest-graded at NGC. If not for the tiny spike (as struck) that extends from beneath Liberty's chin, however, the viewer might easily suspect this piece of being a proof. Indeed, the coin has a distinctly prooflike appearance, and a stark white-on-black appearance from the obvious contradistinction between frosted devices and deeply watery fields. A business strike it is, however, and a fine one at that. Crisply struck and untoned with a few tiny planchet flaws on each side. The expertly preserved surfaces reveal just one tiny nick, on Liberty's cheekbone, extending diagonally upward to the hairline. Census: 1 in 66, 0 finer (7/07). (Registry values: N1)
