Description

Important Proof 1863/2 Three Cent Rarity

1863/2 3CS PR64 NGC. The 1863/2 Overdate is a scarce and desirable variety that comprises just a small portion of the 460 proof trimes issued during the year. This is more correctly described as 1863/1862. All four digits are sharply doubled below. Walter Breen suggested that these Proof overdates were actually struck in 1864, based on his observations of die states. Regardless of their time of production, today the 1863/2 Proof overdates are quite rare. Sharply struck with intermingled vivid blue and violet iridescence. The obverse (especially) and reverse exhibit bold cameo contrast underneath the toning. Envelope Included.(Registry values: P3)
