Ex R. S. Brown, Jr.-Ray Chatham 1973-Thomas Wolf, McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Goldbergs 2/10/2008:1084-Walter J. Husak Collection.

A charter member of Early American Coppers, Raymond Hunt Chatham, Jr. was born in Elkin, North Carolina on April 26, 1910 and died in Pinehurst, North Carolina on October 17, 1983. His World War II draft card indicates that he resided in suburban Chicago and worked for the Chatham Manufacturing Company in that city. Chatham's obituary reports that he was a retired salesman. He and his wife, Ansley, were the parents of Raymond Hunt Chatham, III and Julie (Chatham) Conroy. Chatham sold his collection to Abe Kosoff in 1958. He is credited with discovery of the 1797 NC-6 variety in 1965. As a coin dealer, Chatham handled the collection of Dorothy Paschal. His remaining coins were marketed in 1981 through John Ashby.
