INDIA. Gupta Empire. Samudragupta I (ca. AD 344-378). AV dinar (20mm, 7.45 gm, 1h). XF, ex-jewelry. Lyrist Type. Maharajadhirajah Sri-Samudraguptah (Brahmi), Samudragupta seated left in Lalitasana pose, bare-chested with pearl necklace and large earrings, wearing dhoti, on high-backed couch decorated with jewels, holding lyre (vina) on lap, playing strings with right hand; Si below / Samudraguptah (Brahmi), Laksmi seated left on wicker stool, diadem in right hand, cornucopia in left; back of throne visible, tamgha in left field. cf. TOTGE 2024, p. 272, Variety B (for type). A notably crude type, possibly a local imitation.
