Description

Brandenburg-Ansbach. Alexander 1/4 Taler 1769-S MS61 NGC, Schwabach mint, KM281, Schön-133, cf. Dav-1999 (full denomination). After the death of a childless Frederick Christian (Margrave of Brandenburg-Bayreuth) the principality was inherited by Alexander (Margrave of Brandenburg-Ansbach), commemorated by this specimen. Alexander was the last to rule the two Franconian principalities, as he sold both to the King of Prussia in 1791. A scarce issue, only handled prior as the full denomination, pewter surfaces are mottled with deep smoky tones and cloaked in a coral sheen. One of two certified by NGC; NGC Top Pop.
