Description

Nürnberg. Free Imperial City silver Off-Metal Strike Klippe Ducat 1650 MS62 NGC, KM-XM6 (1/8 Taler), Kellner-S25, cf. Fr-1840 (for gold striking). In the name of Ferdinand III. Commemorative issue produced to celebrate the Peace of Westphalia, which brought an end to the Thirty Years' War in 1648 and, ironically enough, striking Ferdinand III of many of the powers he had been asserting over the local rulers of the German States. The Peace additionally resolved that the each ruler had the right to stipulate the official religion (i.e., Catholicism or Protestantism) in his territory. Precisely struck and glossy.

Metal: Silver
