Description

Intermediate Die State 1834 JR-6 Dime

1834 10C Large 4 JR-6, R.2. Reiver state e.--Obverse Damage--NCS. VG Details. Dark gray in the fields, lighter on the devices. There is a tiny attempted puncture above Liberty's cap and a small rough area in the left obverse field, neither of which warrants attention. An interesting reverse die state, as there appears to be an advanced retained cud through ATES, but this is more a function of coin wear than die deterioration. Several later die states are included in this collection where the die sinking on ATES is scarcely noticeable on these higher grade specimens which were struck well after the present coin. The die crack through MERIC has barely started to form, while the die crack through the final A of AMERICA and the three arrowheads has already become heavy. An interesting intermediate die state to study.
