Description

1843 N-12 Cent, PR64 Brown
Petite Head, Small Letters
One of Two Proofs Known
Ex: Naftzger, Holmes

1843 1C Petite Head, Small Letters PR64 Brown NGC. N-12, R.8 as a Proof. Our EAC Grade PR61. Grellman Die State a. The peripheral die lines above ERI and NI are bold. Probably, the few proofs were coined first, and business strikes followed. N-12 is a great rarity in proof format, with only one other known. An intricately struck near-Gem with pleasing field reflectivity and minimal contact. Mint red clings to design elements though the open field and portrait are gunmetal-gray. Minor spots beneath the flag of the 1, the right pendant of the T in CENT, and below the hairbun are all that limits the grade.
