Scarce 1799 B-18b, BB-154 from the W. Earl Spies Collection

1799 $1 Normal Date. B-18, BB-154, R.4--Obverse Scratched, Improperly Cleaned--NCS. VF Details. Right edge of E over center of highest curl; Small point or spike at end of stem. Reiver die state c. Bowers-Borckardt die state IV. Toned with light to medium gray with darker highlights near the edge. Marred by a series of shallow dull scratches on the obverse near the center, the reverse cleaner with a single dull scratch extending above and right of the eagle's head. Early to middle die state with the crack between ED extending to the right corner of the shield, and a thin die crack is seen through ICA and the eagle's tail. Decent eye appeal despite the problems, and a scarce collector coin. Identifiable by a nick in the field between the two uppermost curls.
