Description
Rare 1723 Hibernia Farthing in Silver
W-12500, MS64
1723 FARTH Hibernia Pattern Farthing, Silver MS64 PCGS. One
dot after 1723, Martin 3.3-Bc.3, W-12500, R.5. The Hibernia
farthing in silver, once considered virtually unobtainable, is now
"merely" rare thanks to the later 20th century discovery of a hoard
of the W-12500 pieces. This seems to have fueled collector desire
for the variant all the more, especially for high-grade examples
such as this near-Gem. The devices are well-defined, and the fields
remain strongly lustrous through ample toning. Deep blue and
lighter olive-gold shadings show occasional glints of bright
silver-white. Listed on page 42 of the 2010 Guide Book.
Population: 5 in 64, 3 finer (11/09).Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# F7HP, PCGS# 179, Greysheet# 39)
