1794 S-18b, B-2b Cent, XF40
Head of 1793, Edge of 1793
1794 1C Head of 1793 XF40 PCGS. CAC. S-18b, B-2b, R.4. Our EAC
Grade VF25. 1794 Edge Device. Breen Die State III. The reverse
is clashed and lapped, with traces of clash marks inside the
wreath, and with the right ribbon fragmented. Although the edge is
not visible through the holder, the die state indicates the 1794
edge device, as does the condition of this piece. Splendid
golden-tan surfaces with deeper color at the worn areas of the high
points. Small splashes of brick red patina appear at the lower
right reverse. Softly luminous surfaces show a number of fine
abrasions, but serious marks are nearly nonexistent. The obverse
has a minor rim nick at 8 o'clock that may help identify the
provenance. Only 17 pieces in Al Boka's census are identified in
grades of VF25 or better. We assigned an overly conservative EAC
grade of Fine 15 to this piece in 2009.Ex: FUN Signature Sale (Heritage, 1/2009), lot 3578.
