Dioscuri were twin deities in Greek mythology, known individually as Castor and Pollux. Their mother was Leda, the queen of Sparta, but while Castor's father was Leda's husband, Tyndareus, Pollux's father was Zeus, the king of the gods. They worked together as one mortal hero and one semi-divine hero, completing a series of tasks such as saving their sister Helen of Troy. They would lose their lives in a battle against the twins Idas and Lynceus, but would be granted immortality by Zeus.
