Awe-Inspiring New Guinea Proof Crown

German Colony. Wilhelm II Proof 5 Mark 1894-A PR67 Cameo NGC, Berlin mint, KM7, J-707, Dav-429. An astounding example of this beautiful and elegant one-year type, perhaps at the zenith of visual appeal for the World Crown medium at-large in the Proof format seen here. Every plume of the majestic Bird of Paradise is shown in high definition and the portrait of the great bird overall is frosted to such a high degree that it almost appears as if it could be representing a masterpiece of ice sculpture. That incredible frosted aesthetic applies to both sides of this treasure, the motifs appearing as if suspended in the Arctic night sky, frozen in time without nary a blemish of disturbance. This example is one of only three NGC certified pieces to achieve a Superb Gem assignment, and the only one to do so while also receiving a Cameo designation (NGC has yet to apply an Ultra Cameo to the type). An immaculate coin that is incredibly special at this level of preservation; the sky is the limit for a piece like this that should summon World Crown connoisseurs of the highest order.
