Description

Franz Joseph I Proof "Vienna-Trieste Railway" 2 Taler 1857-A PR64 NGC, Vienna mint, KM-XM10.1, Dav-20. Variety with the laurel wreath tips pointing to the KA in KAISER. Commemorating the completion of the South Austrian Railway between Vienna and Trieste, a technological feat at the time, spanning approximately 350 miles in length. The Millennia specimen of this sublime commemorative issue combining a striking portrait of Franz Joseph I with intricate reverse imagery including a locomotive, lighthouse, and steamship. An immensely attractive piece flaunting lavishly frosted motifs and well-preserved expanses that are now a lovely combination of ice and steel blue. One of the more desirable 19th century Austrian issues and this near-Gem Proof is as beautiful as any we have offered in many years.
