1783 Chalmers Short Worm Shilling
Choice VF, W-1785, Off Center

1783 SHILNG Chalmers Shilling, Short Worm VF35 NGC. Breen-1011, W-1785, High R.4. Most pre-Federal private American issues are copper, but the varieties of Annapolis silversmith John Chalmers are silver. All are rare today, with the exception of his Short and Long Worm shillings, which are merely very scarce. This wheat-gold and gunmetal-gray representative is essentially unabraded and has clear types despite moderate wear. Struck about 10% off center toward 7 o'clock, though all legends are fully intact. Listed on page 53 of the 2021 Guide Book.
