1879 5C AU58 PCGS. CAC. A scarce date in the Shield nickel series, the 1879 had a mintage of just 25,900 business strikes. This light gray example has a sharp strike with a few darker splashes. PCGS has certified six pieces at this grade, with 92 full Mint State examples (3/11). This would be a good beginning for a matched AU58 set of these coins.(Registry values: N991)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 276D, PCGS# 3808, Greysheet# 2882)
