Description
1824 N-2 Cent, MS64 Red and Brown
Rare Partially Red Example
Probably the Finest Known N-2
1824 1C N-2, R.2, MS64 Red and Brown PCGS. CAC. Noyes Die
State B; this is the later die state, showing light flowlines
towards the peripheries and fading dentils on the reverse, but
lacking the faint die crack between star 9 and Liberty's hair. The
surfaces are free of bothersome abrasions, save for slight
deepening of the patina on Liberty's cheek. The fields show
significant coppery-red luster penetrating subtle auburn-brown
overtones. Several stars are weak, but the interior motifs are
sharp. A few scattered specks do not detract. As a date, the 1824
large cent is elusive at the Mint State level. Pieces retaining
enough original luster to grade in the Red and Brown or Red
categories are rare. This is a highly important offering for the
large cent specialist. Our EAC grade MS63. Population: 1 in 64 (1
in 64+) Red and Brown, 1 finer (8/16).Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 225D, Variety PCGS# 36770, Base PCGS# 1637, Greysheet# 80336)
