Description
1797 16 Stars Half Dime, VF30
Scarce V-3, LM-3 Die Marriage
1797 H10C 16 Stars, V-3, LM-3, R.5, VF30 PCGS. Two different
punch sizes were used for the 7s in the date on this obverse, and
the border shows 16 stars. This die was employed for two die
marriages, of which LM-3 is the scarcer. This high-end VF example
displays pleasing detail for the grade with only minor strike
softness on Liberty's central hair curls. Hints of lilac and rose
toning accent otherwise slate-gray surfaces. The right-hand reverse
dentils are weak from an uneven strike.Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 22ZZ, Variety PCGS# 38599, Base PCGS# 4259, Greysheet# 198153)
