1864 Three Cent Silver PR65 Cameo

1864 3CS PR65 Cameo PCGS. As the Civil War progressed into its fourth year and hoarding of silver coins became more and more of a problem, the Philadelphia mint reduced its production of smaller silver denominations to token mintages. Just 460 proofs and 12,000 business strikes were issued of the diminutive three cent silver. This glittering specimen exhibits pinpoint sharpness and appreciable contrast. The obverse is essentially brilliant while a veil of steel-violet toning coats the reverse. A small planchet flaw is noted near the reverse border at 7 o'clock. Population: 10 in 65, 6 finer (7/07).(Registry values: N1793)
