British India. Victoria gold Proof Restrike Mohur 1841.-(c) PR66 NGC, Calcutta mint, KM461.2, Prid-23, S&W-3.8. Type A Bust, Type II Reverse. Variety with W.W. incuse on truncation and 4 without serif in date. Solidly struck from heavily polished dies and considerable as a condition rarity, this brilliantly mirrored restrike mohur clearly boasts the impressive visual countenance to accompany its peak certified grade. Appearing virtually flawless throughout, with just a touch of the die rust on the reverse that characterizes its later production, one easily becomes enamored by the offering from all angles. For comparison, we note that a PR65+ of the same variety, previously the finest certified, brought $33,600 in our January 2018 NYINC auction.
