Description
1797 15 Stars Half Dime, AU55
V-2, LM-1, Obverse Toning
1797 H10C 15 Stars, V-2, LM-1, R.3, AU55 PCGS. Both 7's in
the date are small, with eight stars left and seven right. As the
only 15-star obverse, this variety secures a separate Guide Book
entry. The Logan-McCloskey Reverse C is distinguished by the
outer berry between N and I in UNITED. The obverse of this lovely
and lustrous Choice AU example features rich iridescent amber,
russet, and aqua toning, heavier near the peripheries, while the
reverse is a rich silver-gray with a glimpse of russet near the
border at 3 o'clock. Considerable mint luster remains. The strike
is sharp on the upper and back curls of Liberty and on the ribbon
and the right wing of the eagle, but soft on the lower curls and
the eagle's body and wings. The quality of strike is typical for
the variety, as few are found with much central definition.Ex: Long Beach Signature (Heritage, 6/2006), lot 916.
