Description

1796 JR-2 Dime, AU55 CAC
Impressive First-Year Type Coin

1796 10C JR-2, R.4, AU55 PCGS. CAC. Seven die marriages are known for the first-year dime. Star 15 lightly joins the drapery, a diagnostic characteristic of JR-2. Each digit leans sharply to the right, creating an "italic" date. The obverse shows light clash marks, minor die cracks, and a narrow rim break over stars 7 and 8. The reverse displays bold clash marks. An impressive Choice A example with splashes of peripheral russet-brown toning. Devoid of relevant abrasions, and a desirable example of the two-year Small Eagle type.
Ex: FUN Signature (Heritage, 1/2012), lot 3126.
