Description

1810 Half Dollar, MS66
O-108, High Condition Census
Ex: Eliasberg, Kaufman

1810 50C O-108, R.3, MS66 NGC. Ex: Eliasberg/Kaufman. According to the Stephen J. Hermann Spring 2023 Revision, the present lot is the second-finest known 1810 O-108 half dollar, behind the Col. Green / Eric. P. Newman MS66 NGC CAC example from our November 2013 Newman Signature. This piece is sharply defined with bold details, including complete border dentils on both sides, unusual for the variety. The surfaces are lightly and evenly patinated wheat-gold. Both sides are uncommonly free from marks, as appropriate for the lofty MS66 level.
Ex: George H. Earle (Henry Chapman, 6/1912), lot 2860; John H. Clapp; Clapp Estate; Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr. Collection (Bowers and Merena, 4/1997), lot 1712; Joseph C. Thomas Collection; Cincinnati Central States Signature (Heritage, 4/2009), lot 2407; August Signature (Heritage, 8/2022), lot 3932, where it sold for $22,200.
