Rare 1876 Dollar, BG-1117A, AU55, Ex: Jay Roe
1876 $1 Liberty Octagonal 1 Dollar, BG-1117A, R.8, AU55 PCGS. Large obverse stars entered distant from the border. The D in DOLLAR is high. The reverse die similar to BG-1116, but the letter O is open on the bottom of BG-1117A and it is open at the top on BG-1116. Nicely struck, and beautifully toned in olive and rose colors. A diagonal slide mark is noted left of the 1 in the denomination. The Breen-Gillio Second Edition lists two survivors, and the present piece is plated in the reference. PCGS has certified two examples of BG-1117A, each as AU58.Ex: Jay Roe Collection (Bowers and Merena, 9/2003), lot 564, which realized $4,945.
