Description

Rare Snow-1 1873 Doubled Die Cent, AU50

1873 1C Doubled LIBERTY AU50 PCGS. Snow-1b. The doubled die 1873 stands head and shoulders above all other varieties in the Indian cent series. While doubling is seen over the entire obverse, it is most evident on the word LIBERTY on the Indian's headdress. Each letter is widely doubled. A less dramatic variety is also known (S-2) but it does not command anywhere near the premium this variety does. This is a pleasing reddish-brown example with even wear over the highpoints. The only surface flaw is a triangular die lamination out of the field below the E in STATES.(Registry values: P10)
